Sitting just minutes from the Zurich city centre, the Dolder Grand is the stuff of travel dreams. Every detail about it shouts Swiss glamour, from the lobby where a striking collection of artworks by the likes of Salvador Dalí and Andy Warhol have pride of place right up to the seductive Dolder Spa where an Aqua Zone and pampering treatment rooms invite relaxation. The location of the hotel makes it a showstopper too, perched above Zurich on a peaceful hilltop with magnificent views over the city and the Alps. Here, the ways to enjoy a sense of calm are endless, from walks in the nearby Adlisberg forest to golf, tennis and ice skating in winter. There is a two Michelin-starred restaurant too, which chef Heiko Nieder makes sure is a destination in itself with dishes that defy culinary preconceptions (think lobster paired with strawberries and lamb braised with apricots and coconut). The only thing more impressive than the food is the gracious staff and their genie-like way of guessing what you need before you know it.
